Ruritan Club celebrates 50 years

Ruritan Club celebrates 50 years LA GRANGE -- Wheat Swamp Ruritan Club recently celebrated fifty years of service to the Wheat Swamp community and surrounding areas. Special guests included charter member Stuart Rouse, the 1956 Greenville- Goldsboro District Governor JohnWorthington,current District Governor Ed Wood,' Governor-elect James Stroud, National Director Wayne Outlaw, and several former members. National Director Wayne Outlaw brought greetings and presented a plaque from the nat,ional office recognizing the club for fifty years of affiliation. Roy Eubanks gave a brief history of the club highlighting the community service projects conducted through the years including of Wheat Swamp School and North Lenoir High School, helping organize and support North Lenoir Fire Department a nd No rth Lenoir Water Corporation,helping needy families, sponsoring Scouts and Little League teams, and providing scholarships.
George Everett was named Outstanding Citizen of the Wheat Swamp Community for 2006 for his long term work with the Wheat Swamp Christian Church, North Lenoir Fire Department, North Lenoir Water Corporation, and North Lenoir High School FFA. Several Ruritan members praised Mr.Everett for his arbitration skills and for helping neighbors in times of need.
J.C. Braxton was voted Wheat Swamp Ruritan of the Year by his fellow members. Macon Wooten, Jr. received the President's Award from the 2006 President David Mooring.
Ruritan officers for 2007 were installed by National Director Outlaw. They are President J.C. Braxton, Vice President David Mooring, Secretary Macon Wooten" Treasurer Wiley Dawson, and 3-year Director William Newberry.
